Group Exercise Classes

Levin JCC offers group exercise classes on an on-going basis. Classes include but are not limited to indoor cycling, group strength, Yoga, Pilates, step, chair assisted classes, water aerobics, walking programs, Folk dancing, gyrokinesis, and much more.

Class format and time vary depending on attendance and instructor availability.

Classes are free for members, unless otherwise noted. Community participation is $5 (be sure to purchase an 11-class punch card for only $50!).

Couch to 5K 9-week Running Program Begins Monday, March 5 and ends Sunday, May 6 with the 5k fun run. We will meet every Monday beginning March 5 at 6:15pm at various locations. During inclement weather we will meet at the JCC. By the end of 9 weeks, you will be able to run your first 5K fun run! Instruction and training information are provided for you to succeed; however, there will be homework. You will be expected to run/walk two to four additional times per week.

Special Yoga classes

Stretch and Restore Sundays
Stretch and Restore helps us deal with the effects of busy and stressful lives. We stay on the floor, focusing on the hips, shoulders, and other areas of the body that tend to tighten up and constrict movement. Deep breathing and working within each pose allow us to relax and meditate. Bring a yoga mat, blanket or towel, strap or neck tie, and a bolster or pillow. Suitable for all levels.

Partner Yoga Sundays
Partner Yoga lets us tap into support from a friend, relative, or yoga buddy. We alternate between partner assists in active poses and partner support for gentle stretches. We’ll add some of our favorite Thai massage moves for a very special class. Come with or without a partner. Bring a yoga mat, a blanket or large towel large enough to cover two mats, straps or neckties, and bolsters or pillows.

Yoga for Emotional Well-Being
Please join us for this interactive workshop to practice yoga and learn more about how yoga can improve our emotional well-being. The workshop will begin with a discussion of how yoga can help us manage difficult emotions and support our ability to cope with stress. We will discuss how yoga can improve our lives through mindfulness, movement, and community. Then we will move through a vinyasa flow yoga practice. All levels of yoga ability and emotional well-being are welcome. Please bring a yoga mat and an open mind.

Group Strength Training in the Fitness Center Grab your friends and head to the Fitness Center to begin your strength training workout. You will be taught proper techniques and principles for strength training, educated on proper usage of the equipment, and you will learn various strength training formats or programming. Space is limited to 6-8 per session. Please pre-register by calling Michelle Hart at 919-354-4941.

Walk with Ease (An Arthritis Foundation Program) This program is appropriate for people of all levels of ability who have arthritis, as well as those without arthritis who want to become more physically active. Classes will meet for approximately 1 hour, 3 mornings per week for 6 weeks beginning in January. Each class will consist of a pre-walk discussion about topics related to arthritis, followed by a warmup,
a walk of 10-35 minutes and a cool down and stretching period. The only prerequisite is the ability to stand without increased pain for 10 minutes. The amount of time spent walking will increase by 5 minutes each week.

Healthy Moms Postnatal Pilates Healthy Moms® classes are specifically designed to address the changes that occur during pregnancy and postpartum. Our certified perinatal fitness instructors teach exercise variations to meet the needs of participants at different fitness levels and stages of pregnancy.
