Family Programs
Sunday Fundays Something for everyone! Parents work out, shoot hoops, or enjoy a yoga workshop. Little ones play or snooze in child care. Elementary-age kids dive into special activities, crafts, and games. 5th-8th graders try something new in one-time workshops. Teens meet up with friends to play Wii in the teen lounge. BRIDGES Sensational Sundays Come for the fun of it. Enjoy crafts, music, games, fitness activities, and light snacks. Each Sunday event will focus on a theme and will include a variety of activities. All activities are designed to suit a range of interests and abilities. “Buddies” will be on hand to make sure that every participant succeeds and has an enjoyable recreational experience. Family

BRIDGES is a JCC initiative that provides social, recreational, educational, and cultural programs and activities for individuals with special needs and their families in a welcoming Jewish setting.

Bubbes and Zaydes The JCC and JFS are seeking those interested in a pilot project matching families and older adults in our community. Families will be matched with a “Bubbe” or “Zayde” (grandmother or grandfather) to get together for a Shabbat dinner, a walk, a cooking session, a school play, or anything else you want to do! JCC/JFS staff will make matches based on interests and will be available for ideas and support. Looking for families and older adults willing to make a 6-month commitment of 2-3 times per month or 2-4 hours per month.

College Center Series Each monthly session in this series will educate high school students and their families about applying to, selecting, and transitioning to college. Topics include standardized test preparation, an insider’s look at the admissions process, choosing the college that fits you best, Jewish life on campus, and transitioning to college life.

Annual Teen Ski Trip This year’s ski trip will be an overnight in Banner Elk, NC! We’ll leave Sunday morning, ski Sunday afternoon and evening, ski all day Monday, and return Monday night. Cost includes bus transportation, three meals, lodging, ski rental, and lift fees for the trip. Space is limited, so register soon! All participants must pre-register by Wednesday, January 4.

Panim el Panim Panim el Panim (face to face) is a 4-day seminar in Washington, DC, where teens explore today’s hottest issues with leading experts and outstanding Jewish educators. The seminar culminates with a trip to lobby Members of Congress about the issues that teens care about most. Panim el Panim integrates Jewish values with political action and community service. This program is a partnership between the Levin JCC and Community Midrasha.

Babysitting Course This American Red Cross course is designed to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for infants and children. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and other safe and help children behave;
and learn about basic care and basic first aid.

Child/Infant CPR and First Aid for Babysitters This American Red Cross course is for students who have already completed the ARC Babysitting Course within the past year. During this class participants will expand on the basic safety skills taught in the Babysitting Course and learn how to provide more advanced care, including CPR, until advanced medical care arrives. Students will receive a Child/Infant CPR and First Aid Certification that is valid for two years.

Babysitting Spring Break Camp During this three day camp, participants will go through the American Red Cross Babysitting course and complete Child/Infant CPR and First Aid Certifications.

In the Kitchen Cooking Class: Vegetarian Family Meal Learn to prepare a vegetarian meal that you can make and serve for your family at home. Volunteer and Organizer Michelle Shrott will show us how rewarding it can be to make a fresh and interesting meal to share. No experience necessary. This hands-on class takes place in the JCC kitchen. Please dress for cooking. Enrollment for each class is limited to just 6 students. Pre-registration required at least 48 hours in advance.

Youth Hoops Basketball Fundamentals Youth Hoops has been delivering basketball instruction for over 15 years. Clinics are based on a comprehensive course curriculum that focuses on either Ball Handling or Shooting and includes passing, one-on-one defense, footwork, screening and rebounding. Afterschool of Rock Have you ever dreamed of becoming a rock star? Do you like dressing up? Singing? Here’s your chance! Martial Arts These classes teach the mixed martial art of Kajukenbo, blending punching, kicking, grappling and escrima (Filipino stick and knife fighting) blended into a holistic martial arts experience. Classes are open to children grades K-2 and 3-5 and their families. In these classes, your child will learn valuable self-defense techniques while gaining self-discipline, improving self-confidence and getting in a great workout. This class is the central location for the Tactical Kung Fu and Mixed Martial Arts children’s program —more information on the school and its instructors can be found at www.tkfmma.com.

Art Sampler Kids earn a Masters in Fun Arts in this class designed for art exploration. Each session revolves around a theme and covers several types of media over the six weeks - drawing, painting, collage, and so much more!

Pottery Local potter David Gould of Good Earth Pottery allows each student to design and create their own unique project at their appropriate level, while providing demonstrations and expert instruction on various handbuilding techniques. Cost includes one block of clay, glaze, firings, and use of necessary tools. All levels welcome. Limited to 6-7 students.

Whales Tales Water Safety The purpose of this American Red Cross course is to promote healthful aquatic recreation by increasing participants’ awareness of safe behavior in, on and around water. Topics include when and how to wear a lifejacket, boating safety, and how to help a swimmer in distress without entering the water. The course is designed for a classroom, but water sessions will be added if weather permits.

Preschool Kung Fu Club This course teaches basic martial arts skills to preschool aged children, using the Chinese martial art of Kung Fu. Your child will enjoy learning basic punching and kicking exercises, while building coordination and self-confidence. They will also learn basic tumbling (the building blocks of grappling) and will gain increased flexibility.
