Aquatic Facility & Programs

The Levin JCC has two outdoor swimming pools. We’ve got a five lane 25-yard lap pool with a diving board and handicap accessible entrance ramp. Plus, a family fun pool with a looping slide, beach entry and water features. There is plenty of room for play, as well as classes and activities for the whole family.

2012 Pool Schedule

Come join us at 1pm on Sunday, May 6th to celebrate the opening of the 2012 season at the pools.

Monday-Friday from 7-9am will be designated as adult swim time in the lap pool, with the focus on lap swimming. Morning Water Aerobics may also fall into this time range. Any additional programming that occurs during this time will primarily be for adult participants.

Starting at 9am, there will be an adult swim/pool break every hour for both pools. That means that on the 50th minute of every hour the pool will be cleared for a 10 minute break except for adults, non-walking infants in their parents arms, and youths participating in a JCC program.

Swim Lessons Once again we will be offering private and group lessons for the 2012 season. Group lessons will be for all ages and abilities, including adult and parent/child lessons. We will be offering morning, evening and Sunday sessions. Private and semi-private (two students) lessons will be available for those interested in one-on-one instruction. Private lessons will meet for 30 minutes and scheduled based on the availability of students, instructors and the pool.

Swim Team We are excited to announce that the Levin JCC will have a swim team for the summer of 2012. The season will run mid-May through mid-July. Morning and evening practices will be available during the week. The team will compete in five dual meets and one Championship Meet as part of the Durham Summer Swim League (DSSL). Meets will be on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Swimmers will need to have passed the green band test in order to join the team.

Diving Lessons This summer we will be offering group lessons for those interested in learning the fundamentals of diving. We will be working with two local dive programs to provide lessons that will focus on learning the core skills that promote safe diving while at the same time having divers learning new flips, twists and tricks. Swimmers will need to have passed the green band test in order to participate in lessons.

Water Safety Instructor (WSI) This American Red Cross course is to train instructor candidates to teach water safety, the Learn-to-Swim Program, Preschool Aquatics and Parent-Child Aquatics. To take this class you must be 16 years old and pass the pre-requisite skills. We will have classes during April and May.

SCUBA Certification Water World, the largest dive shop in the Triangle, will be offering multiple Beginner SCUBA classes during the summer of 2012. The first class will be in mid-April. Water World trains under the guidelines of PADI, the world’s largest and most recognized certifying agency for SCUBA.

Water Aerobics We will be offering deep and shallow water aerobics during the summer of 2012. Morning and evening classes will be available, beginning in May. Class schedules will be posted in January 2012. Please contact Michelle Hart at 354-4941 for more information

Adult Stroke Clinics We are exploring the idea of offering stroke clinics this summer for lap swimmers who would like to get pointers on their strokes. Whether you are a beginner or advanced lap swimmer, please let us know if you would be interested in this type of programming. Please contact Matti Svoboda to be placed on an interest list.

Lifeguard Training This American Red Cross course is designed to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Please note that this class has a swimming pre-requisite. Participants who pass will be certified in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and AED. Join us for our first class on April 9th! More classes will be scheduled throughout the summer.
