Please contact Jessie Zaleon about scheduling if you are unable to attend during these sessions. The program costs $700 per session for All-Inclusive Members of the Levin JCC or $800 for Summer, Cultural, or Potential Members of the Levin JCC. Limited scholarship funding is available; please contact Jessie for more information.
What is the LIT program?
- If you’re a rising 9th or 10th grader interested in becoming a camp counselor or just developing your skills as a leader, Leaders in Training [LIT] is for you! It’s a four-week summer session that provides leadership training, activity programming experience, self-awareness workshops, and team-building exercises to young teens at Camp Shelanu
- A training program to empower teens in our community to effectively lead on youth group boards, in classrooms at religious schools, at Camp Shelanu, and in other roles around the Jewish and non-Jewish communities
What you’ll get out of participating:
- Red Cross Certification in CPR/First Aid
- Camp Shelanu Certificate of Leadership
- Fun, relationship-building experiences with peers, including two field trips and one lock-in per 4-week session
- Free pool membership (for LIT only) for the summer
- Over 100 community service hours
- Training in child abuse prevention, programming, and skills needed to work with children
- Increased self-awareness
- Preparation of trained, experienced leaders who will go on to become Camp Shelanu counselors, participate in JCC teen programming, and lead throughout the community
- A potential “career track” through Camp Shelanu: camper -> LIT -> CIT -> junior counselor -> senior counselor
- Looks great on college applications!
